KEEPELDERS SAFE

There is no age limit to becoming a victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence impacts victims of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, cultures, geographic areas, sexual orientation, genders, and educational levels. Domestic violence in later life can be committed against someone healthy, ailing, or disabled. A partner, spouse, significant other or companion can commit the abuse. Often the abuser is the main caregiver, thus making the victim more vulnerable and dependent on the abuser

How do I help END ELDER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

What Can You Do If You Suspect Someone You Know Is Being Abused?

Most people remain silentabout the issue of domestic violence. Victims may be silent about the abuse because of embarrassment or shame, or for fear that their batterers will hurt them if they tell other people about the violence. Abusers often minimize their actions or blame the victim for provoking the violence. Both victims and abusers may characterize their experiences as family quarrels that “got out of control.”
